Once again the Statue of Liberty didn’t happen. I have resigned myself to the fact that it wasn’t in the cards this trip.
So did all the wakey up stuff and headed out to the American Museum of Natural History. Not gonna lie… Night at the Museum tainted my whoooole viewing of the place. I headed to the top of the place and worked my way down. This choice meant that I started with dinosaurs!!!
I went through most of the rest of the museum very quickly. No, I didn’t see Neil deGrasse Tyson. I was looking forward to lecturing him about Pluto.
Overall, the dinosaur exhibit was much more extensive than the Smithsonian’s and I enjoyed that more. The planetarium part would have been cooler if all the exhibits were open, but it was still really cool. The Smithsonian had a better flow of exhibits. Here I felt like I was walking in circle after circle and backtracking a lot. The gem exhibits were comparable, except DC had the Hope Diamond and a few more gemstones/jewelry of note.
After leaving the Museum, I headed to my taping of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.

We entered the theater and once it was time to start, they brought out the opener. I was seated in the back of the lower level, basically right out from the piano, so I couldn’t see the dome, but I had pretty good seats for the show. I snuck a picture while acting like I was turning my phone off.

The opener was pretty funny, but he got overshadowed by a pair of librarians from the west coast. Long story... After that, Jon Batiste and Stay Human came out and essentially gave us a private concert. They sounded so good. After that, Stephen Colbert came out and did a Q&A with the audience. I may have gotten to ask him where he put his Emmy… (the answer is his bookcase in his office, if you want to know).
Start the taping! The guest for the show I attended was Shawn Mendez… blah… and it was a Climate Week show. I’m not sure if they ran out of time for the comic that was supposed to be on or not. I’ll have to watch and find out what happened. Stephen screwed a part royally up so we had to retape about a five minute bit. It was awesome. I’m so glad I got to do this tonight!
After the show, I stopped for dinner at an Italian that was recommended by my darling Theta. It was a place right next to the theater, and apparently one of my littles first fell in love with pizza at this restaurant. I did not get pizza. I got fettuccine carbonara. It was quite delicious.

Now I’m back in my room with a full belly and am completely exhausted. I didn’t get everything I wanted to finished, but that’s okay. There’s always next time. I need to come back here with the girls, one day I need to bring all of the littles here, and it might make for a nice weekend getaway at some point.
Tomorrow, it’s time to turn to the Boston section of the “Sarah’s Epic Train Trip” binder!
