Day 9: DC to NYC to Hadestown

I woke up and thought I’d wander around before heading out today, but more rain made me decide otherwise. Instead I went to Walgreens so I could get a new charging cable (at least it broke AFTER I charged everything last night). While there, I ran into a guy named Jim who is from Deltona. He saw my UCF mask (because we play tonight and I have to support my team) and we had a twenty minute conversation about football.

Yes. I know what you’re thinking. What kind of dummy books tickets to a Broadway show (bucket list… check!) at the same time her football team plays one of the bigger games of the season? This kind of dummy. If the price of the show’s ticket wasn’t so good, I’d be sitting at a sports bar tonight, I assure you.
I got all packed up and headed to the train station. The staff who got so used to seeing me come and go every day wished me fun in New York and called me a cab.
The train ride was uneventful and quick. It’s nice being able to travel and do things in that dead time instead of focusing on driving. I really should travel by train more often.
I got to the hotel and happily checked into my room. I ended up loving the hotel I had in DC so much that I changed my hotel reservation to one of their properties by the World Trade Center. I also got a room with a kitchenette so I can happily dine on leftovers.
I got settled in and then I started getting ready. Time was crunched so I canceled the dinner reservations I’d made for the evening. I’ll just have to eat in a bank vault another day.
Tonight’s destination: Hadestown. For those who aren’t familiar, Hadestown is a Tony winning musical (bucket list… check!) that tells a version of the Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice, where Orpheus goes to the underworld to rescue his lover, Eurydice.
So oh my gosh… the show was amazing. I went into this one blind — I didn’t know the show or the soundtrack. The music was amazing. The jazzy sound to the music made me want to dance in my on-a-very-steep-inclined seat.
After leaving the show, I did a bit of on the street shopping. Got some gummies… invested in glassware… bought a very pretty lighter. Things of that sort.
Now I’m back in my room, happily munching away whilst waiting for someone to come fix my tv. Tomorrow is the Met (after a very much needed sleep) and I’m not sure what else I’ll get up to. But you’ve stayed with me this far, so I‘d guess y’all would be able to stick around a little more to find out!
