The day started in a not-so-great way. My cold is getting worse, so I woke up every two hours last night. It was a mixed blessing, as I fell asleep without setting an alarm last night. Eep!
The ride from Newport News to Washington DC was beautiful. I managed to catch a half hour or so long nap on the way. That helped improve my mood a bit.
We got into Union Station about 20 minutes late. And then the mishaps began... I tried, but failed, to get two separate Lyfts to my hotel. Eventually I had to give up and just take a cab. It ended up being cheaper, so that made up for some of the frustration.
On the way to my hotel, I realized how close to the White House I really am...

I'm staying at a hotel called Club Quarters. It's like a solo hostel type set up. The room has the essentials and isn't very big, but it's perfect for what I need it for. The staff is wonderful and I'm waiting for the touchlessness of this place to go wrong and to get locked in an elevator or out of my room or something of that sort.
I had dinner at a Spanish tapas restaurant around the corner from my hotel. The atmosphere was nice, but the food was less than stellar. It was a bummer. After dinner, I did a quick touristy tour of the landmarks closest to my hotel... the White House... the penis... I mean, the Washington Monument... the National Mall... the Treasury Building... I'm definitely glad I wasn't here yesterday, because that would have been beyond overwhelming.
So for now, I'm back in my room watching a movie. Tomorrow morning I have to go pick up prescriptions to fight off this plague. Tomorrow afternoon I have a ticket for the American Holocaust Museum. I'm not entirely sure what I'm going to do after that, but I'll probably just wander around that area.
See you tomorrow night!
